Election Notice: AWU-CWA Local 9009 Executive Board

An election for the Executive Board roles of Secretary, Treasurer, and Communications Chair will be held beginning Oct 11, 2025. These roles each have a term of office of three (3) years, ending Nov 24, 2028.

Eligibility for Holding Office and Voting

Any AWU-CWA member who has paid dues in either the month of July 2025 or August 2025 and has not voluntarily left membership, is in good standing and eligible to vote in this election. Members in good standing are also eligible to run for office, provided that they are not a supervisor, and that they are not ineligible due to criminal convictions as specified by Section 504 of the LMRDA. Members who have joined after Aug 2025 dues were assessed and who have paid dues in September are also eligible to vote, if they have not voluntarily left membership before the election begins.

How to Nominate

• Nominations for each office will be accepted via email sent to elections@alphabetworkersunion.org. Nominations should include “Executive Board Nomination” in the subject line and must include the full name of the individual submitting the nomination, the full name of the individual being nominated and which office they are being nominated for.
• Nominations must be from members in good standing of the Local, as specified above, and be submitted by Saturday, September 27, 2025.
• At least three individuals must nominate a candidate in order for them to be included on the ballot. Individuals may nominate themselves.

How to Vote

Eligible voters will receive an email ballot through OPA Vote to their union email address on file on Oct 11. If you’re unsure about your union email address on file or have other questions about your membership, please contact the AWU Membership Committee: membership@alphabetworkersunion.org, or use the change form: go.awu.fyi/change.

Election Timeline

• Sat, Sept 27 – Candidate nomination deadline
• Mon, Sept 29 – Eligible nominees notified
• Sat, Oct 4, 7pm PT - Deadline to accept nominations and submit candidate statements
• Tues, Oct 7, 5pm PT – Candidate Forum (Zoom), info will be in Alphabet Soup newsletter
• Sat, Oct 11, 12:01am PT– Electronic ballots mailed out to union email address on file
• Fri, Oct 24, 11:59pm PT – Polls close
• Sat, Oct 25 – Voters notified of results. If a run-off election is needed, it will be run Oct 27-Nov 7
• Mon, Nov 24 – New officer terms begin
