We, the executive board and the undersigned members of the Alphabet Workers Union-CWA, join our siblings in the labor movement and around the world in calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. We are horrified at the death of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of millions more from the Israeli siege on Gaza. A majority of voters in the United States and Canada support a ceasefire, as do the vast majority of countries across the world. We add our voices to the calls for a ceasefire from the United Auto Workers, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, the National Nurses Union, and many others.

AI technology is used to generate targets for artillery and missiles in Gaza via the Gospel system, track and surveil Palestinians through facial recognition, and Google is selling its AI technology to Israel via Project Nimbus. We believe that workers should know when and if our work is used for military purposes, and that technology should be used for human benefit, not for murder.

Across the US and Canada, we are seeing threats and intimidation towards workers, students, and others speaking up on this issue, including at Alphabet. We oppose workplace harassment and retaliation of any kind, and defend the right to freedom of expression in the workplace. Our Arab, Muslim, and Jewish coworkers must all be able to speak openly and share their perspectives on this issue without retaliation.

Signed:

  • Parul Koul, President
  • Olivia Asemota, Vice President
  • Tahmid Rahman, Treasurer,
  • Toni Allen, Secretary
  • Alan McAvinney, Organizing Chair
  • Stephen McMurtry, Communications Chair

And the undersigned:
