CWA Convention Delegate Elections 2025
Last Updated:
March 31, 2025
Our parent union, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) will be hosting their 80th annual convention this August 11-12 in Pittsburgh, PA! This is a biannual convention where delegates from CWA locals all over the US and Canada attend and vote on the future of CWA, including electing CWA’s officers. Decisions made at the CWA convention may roll down to all CWA locals: it is the highest governing authority of our union!
Based on our union’s size, we are eligible to send five (5) delegates from AWU. By default, the first 4 seats are held for our Executive Board: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. As such, we will be conducting elections for one (1) convention delegates, as well as up to five (5) alternates, in case one or more of our elected delegates is unable to attend.
Timeline for elections:
- Fri Mar 21 – Fri Apr 11: Nominations accepted for CWA Convention Delegates
- Tues Apr 15 12:01am PT– Tues Apr 22 11:59pm PT - Voting period for Convention Delegates
Expectations of convention delegates:
- Attend the convention in full and be prepared to participate and represent your union!
- There will be a training session hosted at the convention for new delegates, so don’t worry, you’ll be brought up to speed on specific processes. (2023 Convention Delegate Training materials for reference) NOTE: While the convention proceedings are scheduled for Aug 11-12, additional sessions like trainings may be scheduled on the day before. We will share more information when we have it!
- Convention delegates will have their travel, lodging, and per diem covered by AWU.
How do nominations work?
- Any current member who is in good standing (paid dues in at least one of the past two months, Jan 2025 and Feb 2025, and has not left membership prior to the voting period) is welcome to nominate themselves or another member for these positions. If you nominate another member, we will confirm the nomination with them prior to the election.
- You can send in nominations by emailing elections@alphabetworkersunion.org with your name, and the person you’re nominating. Please indicate “CWA Convention Delegate Nomination” in your email subject.
- We will confirm nomination eligibility with each nominee prior to the election.
How does voting work?
- Virtual ballots will be emailed to eligible voters (members in good standing as per above definition) to their email address on record with AWU.
- If you need to update your email address on record: https://go.awu.fyi/change
- If you don’t receive your ballot by Wed Apr 16, please email elections@alphabetworkersunion.org with “Missing ballot” in your email subject.
